WHICH TYPE OF COUNSELLOR DO I APPLY FOR?
Do you have experience or qualifications to teach a sport or skill? You could apply to be a Specialist counsellor.Do you simply enjoy working with children? You could ask to work as a General counsellor.
Do you want to work with disabled children and make a big difference to their lives? Why not choose to act as a Special Needs counsellor.
TYPES OF COUNSELLOR:
1. Specialist counsellors teach specific sports or skills such as tennis, football, ceramics.2. General counsellors organise and supervise a range of general activities for a group of campers.
3. Special needs counsellors help and work with campers who have disabilities.
Your accommodation and food is provided by the camp. You will also earn a stipend. For full details see our partner’s website: www.interexchange.org

ELIGIBILITY:
Aged between 19 and 28
Able to commit to 8-15 weeks of work during the summer
Motivated, patient and flexible
Have an enhanced police disclosure document not more than six months old
Be a native or near-native speaker of English
HOW DO I APPLY?
Download your application by clicking herel to info@istplus.com OR USE THE CONTACT US PAGE on the main menu and we will send you an application pack with full information!Fill in the application form, gather the necessary documentation and send it to IST Plus. You must include a deposit cheque for £175. You will be contacted by IST Plus to arrange for a telephone interview.
The interview is an opportunity for you to clarify what you have to offer and a chance for you to present yourself as a prospective Counsellor. We use the results of the interview in our approaches to Camp Directors and owners in order to place you!

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?Placement in Camp USA takes place in March and April. As soon as we have found a suitable camp for you we will send you full details. When you have accepted the placement offer we will contact InterExchange so they can print the documents you will need for your visa.You will have to apply for a J-1 visa at the US Embassy in London or the US consulate in Belfast in a face-to-face interview. We will send you the forms you will need (a DS-219 and SEVIS receipt) and full instructions on how to book your appointment. We will also send you details of your orientation in New York so that you can make your travel arrangements. You will be accommodated in a hostel for one night. The orientation takes place the following morning and then you are sent on your way to your camp! |
