Do I have to be a UK resident to apply?
YES! Non UK residents should contact the Canadian
High commission in their own country
How do I find a job in Canada?
Finding a job in Canada is more or less like
getting a job anywhere - ie; using all the
resources you can find and being resilient! The
internet is obviously the most productive tool,
though you may also have personal contacts. The
good news is that far less students go to Canada
than the USA, so there is a better chance of
getting just what you're looking for!
Does IST Plus organise accommodation?
No. canada is far too big for us to have any
comprehensive network. Your Host Company may be
able to advise, as they will have the local
knowledge!
Can I change jobs in Canada?
No. The canadian Government only allows you to work
for the company that you originally agreed to in
your application
Can I take a second job in Canada?
No - like the USA, the Canadian government does not
allow you to take on any other work (even part
time). You should consider this when deciding
whether or not to take a placement
Is my placement "related to my studies"?
There is some flexibility in this definition for
students in "liberal arts" and social science
degrees. Basically we want to see how you draw the
connection between your studies and proposed
placement, but there should be a significant
connection. The supporting letter from your
university or college should also emphasise this
link.
Is insurance included in the fee?
No. We have found over the past few years that
participants are able to get as good (if not
better) deals on insurance - mainly on the
internet! When purchasing insurance for your trip,
remember that should you choose to visit the USA
during your time in Canada, you will need insurance
cover for this as well!
