The Complicated bit!

Please see to follow the fees for Internship USA. You may be wondering why it goes up to 14 months, when the maximum you can actually be on the internship is 12 months!
This is to allow you to go up to 2 weeks before your internship starts, and stay for the purposes of travel and tourism for up to 30 days after (the max allowed by the US State Department).
**REMEMBER - ALL FEES ARE INCLUSIVE OF MEDICAL AND LIABILITY INSURANCE FOR THE DURATION OF YOUR TIME IN THE US, AS WELL AS YOUR US GOVERNMENT SEVIS FEE**

For example,

if you plan to fly on the 1st October to the USA, and pay for a 12 month programme, the last date we can legally allow you to remain in the USA will be the 30th September the following year.
If you pay for a 13 month duration in the USA (flying out on the 1st October), and your internship ends on the 1st October the following year, we will be able to let you stay in the USA till the 31st October for tourism and travel!
If you choose to fly out 2 weeks before your 12 month internship starts, and stay for the max 30 days at the end, this would take you into the 14 month programme!

Basically, if your time in the USA takes you into an extra month, make sure you use this to the maximum, as we will not be able to change these dates once you have departed for the US

Please note that applications for Host Companies that require SITE VISITS may take up to 4 weeks longer - please allow for this when applying. Full information on this and other new regulations can be found here.
Under new US regulations all new US Host Companies will require a site visit by a CIEE representative unless they fulfill one of three requirements:
  • The US Host Company has more than 25 full time employees
  • The US Host Company generates more than $3,000,000 (3 million US dollars) in annual revenue
  • The US Host Company has previously hosted either a J1 Intern or Trainee through CIEE
  • Please note that application to companies requiring this visit by a CIEE staff member will be subject to an additional £150 charge to offset the costs involved in making the visit. You may want to speak to your potential Host Company in the US regarding possible reimbursement for this additional cost!
